Trump vs Twitter

There are many thought provoking questions that could be discussed but the most striking one to me currently is how on earth is Donald Trump still on Twitter?! It dawned on me today that in years to come history books will probably refer to Trump’s tweets as a basis for source analysis – hopefully not as an explanation for how World War 3 began…

Various articles, such as this one, have discussed whether or not Trump has violated Twitter’s terms of service. From the UK, Trump’s antics are shocking, scary and becoming increasingly less comical. It’s hard to imagine Theresa May in the same position; the PM is regularly mocked on social media due to outfit choices, behaviour in PMQ’s or scandalous antics involving fields of wheat. In comparison to the US, our leader seems somewhat stable (note: I had to roll my eyes at saying stable after “strong and stable” haunted the British public during GE2017).

It is frightening that Trump’s Twitter madness is not a new phenomenon, the President has been tweeting like a madman for as long as he has been socially relevant. The real madness is that despite his erratic Tweets, he was still elected! Am I the only person that feels as though Trump’s presidency feels like a joke that has gone on for too long?

Perhaps it’s refreshing for a politician to not be censored and to speak honestly… It’s just a shame that Trump’s opinions are ones that I think are best not enacted on or shared with the public.

Adventure Time!

On Wednesday I found out my ESTA application was successful and I am free to venture to the States for the next 2 years!!!

Last year I had the choice of going to Japan or America and ended up visiting Japan then venturing to Australia. America is somewhere that I’ve always wanted to go – I have family out there and my Grandad always returned from visits with the most amazing stories to tell so that’s massively inspired me to add it to my bucket list. But I wanted to do America with no budget restrictions and no time limit.

I studied the War on Terror for my dissertation subject and am so excited to explore the places I’ve only read about in books and journals. Equally, I’ve been closely following US politics so, as nerdy as this sounds, I’m interested in watching the news from the perspective of a US citizen. Typing that has made me realise how much of a loser I sound but I love getting immersed in a different culture. Also, I can’t wait to venture out into the US comedy scene – American humour differs from British humour but I find it absolutely hilarious.

Ahhhh I am so so excited!!!! I’m staying in New Jersey with my brother and cannot wait to venture around one meal at a time. I lived with my brother for a month in Sydney and we had the best time ever – he’s the only person I can spend that amount of time with without having any quarrels at all.

I’m planning a long road trip next year but for now I’m going to only go for a couple of weeks. If any of you have any recommendations with places to go around New Jersey/NYC then please do let me know! I’m also planning on flying to Florida whilst I’m there so also let me know anywhere I should check out there – it’ll be highly appreciated!
